The 3rd Women’s Hackathon was held at CSU San Marcos on Apr 25, 2015 – sponsored by Intuit IncorporatedCompTIA and The Gormally Family. And thank you to our nonprofit sponsors Equinox Center and 4 Bone Health who developed the Water Conservation and Bone Health Hackathon Challenges. Special thanks to AnaZana and Video in the Community – CSU San Marcos, as our media sponsors.

Hackathon Highlights – Highly motivated and energy overloaded!

There was a lot of excitement at the event on Saturday with over 70 hackers (age 16+) representing over 15 schools and colleges in Southern California, over 15 Mentors (software professionals and IT pros from companies such as Qualcomm, Sony, ViaSat and many others), 5 judges representing prominent tech companies in our region and many volunteers. Thank you to the staff for pulling off such an inspiring event! We also held 2 Future Hackers sessions (for middle school girls), where students learned to develop Android apps.

The semi-annual Women’s Hackathon is designed to inspire young women to explore the unknown and open doors to opportunities in the tech sector. The 12-hour event is open to all female students, ages 16 and older, who work collaboratively to design a website, game, or mobile app that addresses a selected real world challenge. Project challenges on Apr 25th included Water Conservation & Bone Health. No prior programming experience is required and registration is free.
